10. Processing of Orphan (unused) Drugs
- Medications that have not expired and are waiting for a potential patient are listed in Unused Stock. The patient originally ordered for is listed with the medication.
- If the name of the medication is clicked it will expand to display details about the original order.
- If it’s expected that the medication may be used by the original patient before the expiry date, “Do not use on another patient” can be ticked which will reserve the medication for the original patient.
- Processed or claimed can be ticked when the medication has been claimed on the PBS and/or discarded.
- ‘Processed’ refers to claiming the medication on the PBS
- A medication will remain listed as available in Orphan Drugs until the expiry date is past. Then it will automatically move to the Expired and Unprocessed folder.
- When the medication has been processed, e.g. the claim is sent to the PBS, it can be moved to the Expired and Processed folder by ticking ‘Processed’.
- When the medication has been Used by a patient, it will automatically move to the Used folder.
